We have been exploiting our mother earth for the last hundred years with the use of plastic. With its usage, we have opened the doors of exploitation for our planet ourselves. Despite knowing the harmful effects of plastic in our life, we are still stuck in our facilitation. International Plastic Bag Free Day is a reminder for all the human race to think about their future and upcoming generations. 3rd July is declared as International Plastic Bag Free Day by ZWE(Zero Waste Europe), an NGO in Brussels.
Plastic and its usage
The main ingredient of plastic is a polymer. Polymer is the material that makes it possible to be molded in any shape. We use it in our daily lives in different ways. For example- Containers, buckets, bottles, and the most common form – Plastic bags. With the rise of the day-by-day population in the world, the usage of plastic is also touching the sky. According to a survey, around 100 million plastic bags are used by the total population of a country in a single day. The main reason is that plastic is very easy to carry due to its lightweight. It is durable and adjustable as it takes up very little space.
But plastic has very few advantages as compared to its disadvantages. If we continue the use of plastic then God knows what phase of danger will our upcoming generations face!
Why should we quit the use of plastic?
-According to nature’s rule, things get decomposed under certain environmental conditions. But plastic is the only thing that is very hard to decompose even under the earth for thousands of years. The harmful chemicals inside it release the micro toxic particles which pollute the soil and reduce its fertility.
-Not only under the earth, but the plastic is also very dangerous while the existence and usage of this in our hands. If you think that we can burn all the plastic to end this trouble, then pardon me, friend! You are wrong. It emits harmful chemicals in the form of gases and spreads dangerous diseases through breathing.
-Disposing plastic bags on land and water is also another phase of danger for human life. It reacts with the rays of the sun to emit harmful chemicals, so disposing on land is the worst alternative. If cows or other stray animals eat the plastic bags, it blocks their food pipe and they die in agony.
In water, it harms marine lives to the great extent due to which we have already lost some of our precious marine species.
How can we contribute to reduce the use of plastic??
The above studies show that there is no method possible to end the existing plastic on this earth. But preserving our mother earth is our duty towards nature. It has provided us a lot, so we cannot step back to serve our mother. Quitting the use of plastic forever is what we can do. However, there are different methods to recycle it and reuse it again. Recycling is good but it doesn’t end this crisis. So quit it today and start this initiative on an individual level. Bangladesh was the first to ban the usage of plastic bags in 2002. The great thing is that our country is also not behind anyone. On the celebration of 45th World Environment Day, India pledged to abolish the usage of single plastic by the year 2022.
A great step by Dera Sacha Sauda in preserving nature and saving environment
With its 6.5 million followers, Dera Sacha Sauda left no stone unturned to end the use of plastic bags. With the guidance of the chief of DSS, Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan, millions of people got to know about the harmful effects of plastic on our environment. Guru Ji motivated masses to quit the use of plastic and told them the new ways as an alternative to it. Millions of people coming to Guru Ji pledged never to use plastics in their life. In the series of 134 humanity welfare works, most are related to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
