A doctor’s profession is a sacred one

“Medicine cure diseases but only doctors can cure patients”

Carl Jung

Since time immemorial, doctors have always been seen as the custodians of our health and people with immense knowledge. Protecting someone’s life and healing the pain is none other than a noble task. Doctors heal the sick and are credited with making life-saving decisions. Though every illness cannot be cured completely, the efforts of doctors can increase the lifespan of the patient. The time varies with patient and disease but the efforts behind them are commendable. Doctors make it possible that their patients can live to the fullest by mitigating the discomforts of the disease. Many doctors are working round the clock as researchers to find the very possible cure for a disease. Doctors play a very crucial role in keeping the pillars of society strong and healthy.

When the health of the world rests delicately on the shoulders of our doctors.

The world has witnessed pandemics from time to time. But Covid-19, or coronavirus, has spread like wildfire, rising the death toll and leaving behind an alarming number of victims. The world witnessed how an entire army of health assistants, nurses, paramedics, and doctors have geared up to fight this deadly virus. While many of us were trying to figure out how to stay at home, away from people to avoid exposure, doctors risen up for battle and ran into the fire. These corona warriors have left no stone unturned to fight with the novel coronavirus.

Doctors -the front-line warriors in Corona Virus Pandemic.

With limited knowledge on how to treat COVID-19,  doctors faced tremendous stress as they sought to better understand the virus and to identify effective therapies and treatments. Many doctors were bound to exposing themselves to the virus while they were valiantly working to treat it.

Stress, Anxiety, exhaustion, underlying fear, and hope…these terms indicate the situation of the doctors mobilized in the battle against Covid-19.

As time passed, many healthcare professionals determined what techniques, therapies, and drugs that were consistently helping COVID-19 patients recover, resulting in a dramatic decrease in the number of deaths.

Packed In PPE’s

In times of pandemic, Do you know that doctors are dressed in Personal Protection Equipment(PPE) while attending patients which cannot be changed for about 6 to 8 hours? Getting packed in PPE is suffocating and quite discomforting.

It is difficult to go to the washroom while wearing PPE. They need to be extra careful while discarding it. Many doctors drink very little water to avoid going to washrooms.

There is no break

Most of us felt sick of having a long break at home during the lockdown. When the virus infected people at an alarming rate, doctors were not allowed to take any leave. Even during their shifts, they have to wear PPE that means no break, and continuously work for 8 hours in PPE. Many healthcare workers suffered fatigue and dehydration but they continued to fight.

They are most exposed

Doctors are the most exposed to the coronavirus because they treat the corona patient. Though they are advised to take necessary cautions, they are still at high risk of getting the infection. Sometimes, It is not possible to examine without touching the patient, putting doctors at a greater risk of getting this deadly infection.

They Stopped Visiting Families.

It is not just the doctors; their families too, are at the risk of contracting COVID-19. Despite following strict precautions, doctors are getting infected. Many of them have stopped meeting their families. During lockdown, we all enjoyed the phase while quarantined with our families, sharing our happiness and anxieties with them. But many of the corona warriors are meeting just once a month and are not able to see their families for a longer time.

Despite following strict preventive measures, we are coming across how doctors are falling prey to this deadly infection. Many doctors dealing directly with coronavirus patients have even stopped visiting their families and are meeting them weekly once, that too from a distance.

They are working in poor conditions

In a populous country like India, there is a lot of shortage of medical equipment. Doctors are working under stress to make them arranged for the increasing no. of patients. Many of the remote doctors do treatment, perform surgeries in poor working conditions. Many doctors are complaining of skin infections caused due to excessive sweating in their hands while working continuously.

Doctors do a lot!

Though pandemic has made us realize the value of doctors in society, doctors save lives every time. They prevent the onset of diseases, make people aware and serve as front-line workers in natural disasters. It is not easy to become a doctor. These professionals have to undergo a lot of stress, pressure, dedication, and passion to be able to treat patients and save lives. The journey from being a medical student to a doctor includes many years of hard work. Still, many doctors are underpaid and sometimes witness unfortunate physical and verbal attacks.

Kudos to the spirit and dedication of Doctors!

Just as we praise soldiers and police officers for running toward danger and saving lives, we should respect everyone working in the medical field for what they are doing.

On this Doctor’s day, we show our sincere and utmost gratitude to all those who have selflessly helped us in times of need, working diligently for the well-being of mankind.

They are the ones who face this threat head-on while being exposed far more than any of the rest of us.

Thank you, doctors! You are the real heroes!

Happy Doctor’s Day !!
