What is mindfulness?

Our thoughts wander all the time. We travel the world sitting in one corner of a room. In fact, sometimes, in a meeting or a classroom, supposedly paying attention, our mind wanders off somewhere,  making out lists of all the things we need to do or the things we could have done if we were not there. We either review the past or plan for the future.

Mindfulness is the practice that teaches you the skill of paying attention to the present. Moreover, it helps you better understand how you feel and how you react. Therefore, it helps you to live in the present moment, instead of worrying about the future or past.

How to fight stress and anxiety with mindfulness?

When you start focusing on the present situation instead of thinking about the past or future, automatically many things get sorted.  It is also related to concentration. When you focus on the current scenario, your efficiency increases in your present work and so the results are more fruitful. Eventually, as you concentrate, you realize that most of your thoughts and worries are useless. Most of the fears are just pieces of imagination. Mindfulness can help alleviate stress by improving emotion regulation that can lead to a better mood and better capability to handle stress. In many countries, psychotherapists have used mindful meditation as a tool to treat anxiety disorders, eating disorders, stress, etc.

Mindfulness can help you achieve your goals and ambitions

Enhancing your capacity for mindfulness supports many attitudes that ultimately contribute to a satisfying life. Try to set everyday goals or short time goals and work on them. It will help you fully engaged in activities. Short steps can help you achieve bigger success. Being mindful makes it easier to entertain the pleasures in life as they occur, helps you create a greater capacity to deal with adverse events. Mindful people are less preoccupied with concerns about the future, go wonderfully with the flow, and are better able to form deep connections with others.

If you are a student, you can practice mindfulness like this. Set a timer for some time say thirty minutes and give one subject your full and undivided attention. Don’t check your phone in between, No eating of snacks, no clicking on notifications, no browsing online, and absolutely no multitasking. Let that one subject take center stage until the timer goes off.

Mindfulness helps you eliminate negative feelings and build relationships

Anxiety, anger, frustration, irritation, stress can mentally exhaust you and affect your physical and mental health. Negative thinking degrades your personal and professional life. It has been found that Mindfulness training can boost resilience and help to understand and regulate emotions. It trains your mind on how you feel and how you react.

Mindfulness helps you listen better, understand better and react better. It makes you aware of your habitual behavior. It does not only enhance the sense of inner awareness but also helps to appreciate the beauty and blessings in your life. Exploring gratitude practices can help to train your mind to see what’s right over what’s wrong. Moreover, lower stress levels will help you to be more in touch with your partner, friends, or anyone close to you.

What are the ways to achieve the state of mindfulness in daily life?

Meditation

Meditation is mirror-like reflection of Mindfulness. The practice of meditation helps you achieve mindfulness, while mindfulness supports and enriches meditation. After practicing meditation for a specific amount of time, you can apply mindfulness to any situation throughout the day.

Introspection

The notion of introspection refers to the self-evaluation of what you think and what you do. It helps you to polish yourself.

Meditate for 5 minutes, and then think about what have you done throughout the day, what have you gained and what have you missed, places where you were right, and where you were wrong. Apply right and wrong the next day and improve yourself.

Acceptance

We all are born with qualities and flaws and grow up in different situations that make us unique. Mindfulness meditation can help you overcome low self-esteem and realize your full potential. You can realize your talents, turn your flaws into powers, and put them to good use. Just Be the Person You Want to Be. Meditation enhances your confidence in your abilities and talents. Take a moment to think about what you could do with your life.

Stop Judging

Accept that everyone has imperfections. Never categorize people based on their blemishes. Take the good from them. Be kind and enjoy the moments by loving and caring.

Worry less, work more

Keep yourself engaged in the present moment in your current work. Accept the challenges of life- there are good days and bad days. Do not complicate things with stress. Perform your duties with full dedication. Whenever you feel things are not working out, take a pause, breathe deeply and meditate for five minutes. Then try to think about what can you do best out of the moment and go with the flow.

Yoga – an age-old proven method for a mindful state

The age-old practice of Yoga helps us to restore our body, senses, and mind to their natural function. It awakens a seventh sense that allows us to feel wholeness, calmness, tranquility, and well-being.

What do great people say about mindfulness?

“Be in the present Moment”

“Be happy at the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.”

“If you judge people, you don’t have time to love them “

Mother Teresa

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Power of Meditation

“Meditation is the only way to increase our confidence. Will power is omnipresent. Everyone has an ample amount of willpower within themselves on this earth. It’s just that how much we use it.”

“Humans can invent supercomputers, explosive products by just utilizing only 10-15 percent of brainpower. Brainpower is directly proportional to willpower or confidence level. If 15 percent of the brain can bring up such inventions in front of us then what all miracles can happen if 50 percent utilization of brainpower is possible. We can enhance our brainpower through meditation and utilize it in inventions that will benefit the whole society.”
