World Nature Conservation Day

Observed on 28th of July every year, the World Nature Conservation Day aims to spread awareness regarding the increasing threat to nature and what are the steps needed to conserve it.

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”

~ Mahatma Gandhi

This is the reason I think that today we need to celebrate this day. Nature provides everything to fulfill human needs but human’s greed has increased to the extent that it led to overexploiting of nature and its resources.

The nature provides us air, water, sunlight, wood, food, minerals, plants etc. and in return what it asks from human is to use these resources wisely and to not destroy nature. The conservation itself refers to the wise and careful use of resources so that they can be sustained for future generations too.

Significance of Nature Conservation

From the air we breathe, food we eat to the land on we live; everything is being provided to human by nature. Here are some points showing the importance of nature in our lives:

Life sustaining resources

Water, air and food; the basic needs to survive are provided by nature. We get water from the lakes, rivers, underground water; oxygen in the form of air from trees; fruits, vegetables, wood, medicines etc. from the plants and forests. All these precious life sustaining resources are provided by nature and the overexploitation & wastage of these resources lead to environmental degradation.

Ecological balance

Without nature i.e. forests, water bodies, wildlife etc. there will be no balance between the organisms and its surroundings. All the organisms are dependent on each other and the natural resources to survive; which create an ecological cycle and it keeps a balance in nature.

Climate regulation

Soil, forests, wetlands, oceans etc. play a very crucial role in maintaining climate balance as they can store and absorb the carbon and hence, regulates the green house gases. Moreover the trees of forests regulate the rainfall through transpiration.

Economy

The nature has great role in boosting the economy of a nation. All the services provided by nature such as fossil fuels like carbon, petroleum, minerals, marine ecosystem, agricultural products etc. have a huge role in promoting the country’s economy.

Cultural and recreational activities

The incredible views of forests, mountains, beaches, lakes etc. are very essential for enhancing the emotional and mental well being of human. It provides great recreational experiences and also influences the cultural and spiritual values.

How to contribute in Nature Conservation

Conservation of nature has become essential today because of the human activities continually destroying and over exploiting the natural resources. The conservation of nature is not the duty of a single person, government or community; it can only be conserved by our team efforts. Here are few steps by which we can make our contribution in nature conservation:

Tree Plantation

We know that plants have a huge and the most important role in conserving nature. Plant more and more trees and also nurture them to conserve nature.

Here is a unique way introduced by Dera Sacha Sauda – a socio- spiritual organization where the adherents plant a tree on every special occasion; be it their birthday or anniversary and not only planting saplings but they also nurture and take care of the plant until it becomes a tree. Apart from this, the ‘Tree Plantation’ drive is conducted by the guidance of the Dera chief Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan and under this initiative, the volunteers plant millions of trees and help to conserve the mother nature.

Cleanliness

Cleanliness matters most in preserving the nature. Throwing garbage into recycle bins and using biodegradable resources as much as possible and adopting the 4r principle i.e. reduce, reuse, recycle and recover can largely contribute to reducing the waste and keeping environment clean.

‘Cleanse the planet Earth, to remove Disease and Curse!’

~ Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan

The Dera Sacha Sauda highly supports the cleanliness and hygiene for which mega cleanliness campaigns are being organized every year where lakhs of the Dera followers participate voluntarily and clean the whole cities and areas in just few hours which is incredible in itself. Save the birds and animals

Just like humans, animals and birds also need the nature and they themselves are the important part of our whole ecosystem. Birds are considered the best pollinators hence they help in growing trees and plants and enhance the beauty of nature. So in order to save nature and to maintain an ecological balance, the activities like poaching, hunting, over exploiting, innocent killings of animals and birds should be stopped.

At individual level, we can contribute by feeding the birds and stray animals like cows with fodder etc, like the Dera Sacha Sauda volunteers keep food grains and water pots on their rooftops and balconies to make it easy for the little birds to find their food, under the Birds’ Nurturing initiative started by Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji. Save water and energy

We all know that water is a life saver and we are continually wasting it and using it unwisely. Water and Electricity are important to not only quench the thirst and to lighten up the world respectively, but these are the basic necessities of life.

Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan has inspired millions of people by providing the amazing tips to save energy and water such as using rainwater collected in tanks for irrigation, using the bathroom water by filtering it through an easy process and using it for gardening or watering plants, switching off the lights & bulbs while not in use, using water and energy resources wisely.

Switching to biodegradable resources

We should minimize the use of resources which are perishable and creates pollution and instead use the resources which are easily biodegradable such as using solar energy, cotton and jute bags instead of plastic bags, wind energy to generate electricity etc.

Conclusion

Hence, in order to conserve the nature for our present and future generations, we need to work together. The social – spiritual organization Dera Sacha Sauda is making a big difference in nature conservation activities by its unique and great initiatives and so can we by voluntarily participating and contributing to these initiatives.
