Education plays a very necessary role in one’s life. It is essential not only for personal development but for the holistic development and growth of society as well as the nation. Education is something which no one can take from you. It is not only limited to bookish knowledge but also about how to live life in a way that benefits oneself and also others. It’s about learning morals, ethics, to know the difference between good and bad. Hence, education provides the power which can help bring a change in the community, society, nation and the whole world.

To promote awareness about importance of education, every year National Education Day is celebrated on 11th of November.

Why is the National Education Day celebrated?
The National Education Day is celebrated annually on November 11 to mark the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who was the first education minister of independent India. The day is celebrated since 2008 when Ministry of Human Resource Development announced the day as National Education Day also known as Rashtriya Shiksha Diwas.
This day is celebrated to honour the contributions made by Abul Kalam Azad during his tenure as Education Minister from 15 august, 1947 to 2 February 1948.
What is the Importance of Education in one’s life?
Education is the process or activity of teaching or learning where one acquires knowledge and achieve other importance skills and character traits. Education is necessary for overall development of an individual. It helps one to know one’s own self and the surroundings. It gives us the ability to differentiate between wrong and right. With the help of education one becomes aware of their rights, learn to take decisions in life, can pursue a career and achieve personal growth and success in life. An educated person becomes a great citizen of the nation and thinks of the ways to develop the nation and society. Education works as a torch in one’s life. The role of education is huge especially to survive in today’s competitive world.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s views about Education
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the first education minister of India post independence. He has a huge role in developing and shaping the Indian Education System. He emphasised on the education of girls, especially the rural and poor children. He made education compulsory and free for children upto age of 14 years. Apart from basic education, he also introduced vocational and technical education. He said that education is necessary for development of nation and also to know about one’s rights. He wanted to make India a strong nation in terms of education and believed that if our Educational base will be strong and everyone will be educated then there will be no poverty in the nation. On 16 january, 1948, during addressing an All India Education conference he said, “We must not for a moment forget, it is the birthright of every individual to receive at least the basic education without which he cannot discharge his duties as a citizen.”
Hence, to honour all his contributions in upgrading the education system the day is celebrated annually.

How is the day celebrated across the Nation?
Every year all the people across the nation celebrate this day and honour the contributions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. All the educational institutions such as schools, colleges, universities organize different performances and cultural events to celebrate the day. Different seminars, rallies, debates, discussions, workshops etc. are organised by the institutes. The issues and problems faced by our education system and the strategies and techniques to upgrade it are discussed.

Contributions in upliftment of education by NGOs

There are so many organisations, NGOs etc that are working towards upliftment of society and awakening masses about the importance of education. One such organisation is Dera Sacha Sauda which is Non- governmental social and spiritual organisation that is continually working towards the development and welfare of society. They are continually spreading the importance of education in our society, some of the welfare works dedicated to the upliftment of Education in society are:
Various educational institutes have been opened by the organisation which provides high quality, safe education along with providing moral values, ethics and other sport activities. More than 6000 students are getting education in these institutions today.


Encouraging the education of rural girls by spreading awareness and providing them free education.
Help for poor students is provided by distributing them Free books, bags, shoes, uniforms and even their tuition fees and other stationary by the volunteers for those who can’t afford these things, so as to encourage them to get education.


A free Primary school for education is opened at Dera Sacha Sauda for the children of poor workmen where over 150 children are studying and getting benefitted.
To help and aid the poor people, free coaching is also provided by volunteers along with providing them the career counselling to guide them on the right path where they can achieve success in their life.
But who is the inspiration source behind these volunteers who is motivating them to do such altruistic deeds for the weaker sections of society? Well, HE is no other than their guru Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan aka Saint Dr. MSG. The millions of volunteers of this organisation are hence continually engaged in 146 welfare works being initiated by Saint Dr. MSG.

Education is must for everyone. It is the only tool that will lead our nation towards development and success. We must aware others about its importance as the day itself is celebrated to raise awareness and to upgrade the education system. So, let us also put our contribution so that we can end the poverty and illiteracy from our nation with the help of education.
