What is World Population Day?
World Population Day is observed each year on July 11th to highlight the issues related to overpopulation in the world. In addition, it also aims to increase awareness about the global population. The day was first established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program in 1989.
What is the theme of World Population Day 2021?
The theme for World Population Day 2021 is :
“Rights and choices are the answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritizing the reproductive health and rights of all people.”
The corona pandemic has compromised the whole health care system including the area of reproductive and sexual health. As a result, there is a growing concern over fluctuating fertility rates.
Moreover, there was a sharp rise in unplanned pregnancies. The lockdown also exposed women to gender-based violence and inequalities that got exacerbated.
What is the significance of World Population Day?
The main agenda behind observing a special day as World Population Day is to throw a spotlight on the issues would arise due to rise in population.
The day is marked to spread awareness about family planning, human rights, gender equality, poverty, reproductive health issues, and maternal health issues.
It is to make people aware that overpopulation is a burden on the planet Earth that leads to depletion of precious resources and harmful to the environment.

Many organizations worldwide are famous for their actions for awareness on population control. However, inking long articles, debating on TV screens, and delivering speeches is not enough unless action is taken.
Acknowledging the steep rise in population and the adverse effects that it can cause, Dera Sacha Sauda(DSS) has come forward to take effective actions.
Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan started the initiative of making common people aware of this problem. Guruji taught the people especially the low-income uneducated class to plan one or a maximum of two children. Rather than having many children and life long struggle to meet their needs, One child plan can ensure them the best possible upbringing.
Motivated by Guruji’s words, millions of people pledged and filled pledge forms to have one child and they would help control the population explosion.
On this World Population Day, let us prioritize reproductive health
A large population of women from the lower-income class does not have access to proper health care and nutrition during pregnancy. They are deprived of proper resources, knowledge, and financial support.
DSS is a well-known organization for taking wonderful initiatives for the welfare of all. The chief, Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan has dedicated his entire life to serve mankind. Under his guidance, DSS launched the initiatives ‘Respect Motherhood’ and ‘Mother-Child Guardians to take care of these women.
Respect Motherhood:
Under this initiative, free health care is provided to women from financially weaker backgrounds. The organization conducts free medical checkups camps wherein free health checkups, medicine, and guidance are provided. These medical Camps are organized at Dera Sacha Sauda, Sirsa and the Shah Satnam Ji Speciality Hospitals monthly.
Additionally, to meet the dietary requirement of destitute pregnant women, volunteers provide wholesome nutritious food to pregnant women in their respective areas.
Mother-Child Guardians
Under the ‘Mother-Child Guardians’ initiative, post-delivery care of women from a low-income group is taken. The mother and the child are nurtured and provided care by DSS volunteers so that the baby grows healthy.
Along with these selfless initiatives of kindness that have helped thousands of destitute women, volunteers organize mass awareness rallies to educate people. The talk on family planning is taboo in our society. Thus, volunteers have crossed the barriers and spread the word intending to control the population. Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan has given a slogan to awaken people about the need for family planning.

Women have been continuously deprived of basic human rights. Domestic Violence and other crime against women have arisen the need for women empowerment. Therefore, Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan guided millions of followers to nurture their daughters to grow up to become strong and independent women.
With a vision to make girls financially independent so that they can take care of themselves in any given circumstances. DSS is taking many innovative steps on women’s education, self-defense training under the guidance of his holiness. Moreover, the volunteers also organize rallies to spread awareness on women’s empowerment. In fact, needy women are taught certain skills and are enrolled free of cost in training sessions to make them financially independent.
